Macquarie Wharf No.1 Fendering

Macquarie Wharf No. 1 Berth, Port of Hobart

Type of infrastructure

Wharf infrastructure upgrade

Time frame

June 2021 - September 2021

Current Phase

Removal of decommissioned fendering

TasPorts will be undertaking works to install new fendering at Macquarie Wharf No.1 from 28 June 2021, through until September 2021.

Fenders play a critical role when berthing a vessel by acting as a bumper to prevent damage to ships and wharf infrastructure. To ensure our wharf side assets remain fit-for-purpose, new fenders have been commissioned for TasPorts tugboats, the Mount Florance and Yandeyarra. These new fenders are currently being prepared, with pre-installation works to commence alongside the wharf in late June.

The majority of works will be undertaken by the team from TasPorts’ landing barge, Kulanda, which will be anchored alongside the wharf. However, to ensure public safety, a small exclusion zone will be established on the wharf area of approximately one metre in depth. Additionally, there will be a 50m exclusion zone and no wash zone requested around the vessel.

To minimise impact upon patrons, staff and community, works will be limited to 8am – 4:30 pm Monday to Friday.

For the removal of redundant infrastructure, there will be some short periods of noise-generating activities, associated with the removal of existing concrete structures.
