UPDATE: On 3 September 2020, the Australian Government announced a three month extension of the human biosecurity emergency period under the Biosecurity Act 2015.

As a result, the restrictions on the entry of cruise ships into Australia will remain in place until 17 December 2020.

TasPorts continues to work with the cruise industry sector in planning for the future resumption of cruise when it is safe and appropriate.

In response to COVID-19, on 15 March 2020 the Tasmanian Government suspended cruise ship operations in Tasmanian waters through until 30 June 2020. At this time, a further review is planned to be undertaken.

Additionally, on 27 March 2020 the Australian Government announced a ban prohibiting international cruise vessels operating in Australian waters. The ban on international cruise vessels capable of carrying more than 100 passengers was extended on 25 May 2020 for a further three months until 17 September 2020.

Until there is further clarity on the future of the cruise industry internationally, nationally and locally, there is a high level of uncertainty around cruise ship bookings for the 2020-2021 season.

On this basis, TasPorts has temporarily removed the 2020-2021 cruise shipping schedule from its website until such time as there is more certainty around future cruise ship operations globally.

TasPorts is continuing to work closely with the cruise sector during this incredibly challenging period.
