TasPorts has welcomed the announcement by Australian cruise line Coral Expeditions on the resumption of domestic expedition cruise activity for the 2021 summer season.

The company will be running a series of Tasmanian focused itineraries between January and March 2021, with 63 metre expedition cruise vessel Coral Discoverer.

TasPorts Chief Executive Officer Anthony Donald said TasPorts is looking forward to welcoming the vessel at the Port of Hobart.

“TasPorts is supportive of the return of domestic cruise in a safe and appropriate manner and is pleased to welcome Coral Discoverer to the Port of Hobart in late December, following approval from relevant authorities,” he said.

“The vessel will be operating within all COVID-19 regulatory requirements, as well as Coral Expeditions’ SailSAFE plan.

“In line with this, the vessel will have a maximum capacity limit of 60 guests and will only include Australian passengers and crew,” he said.

Mr Donald said TasPorts has continued to work with the industry and stakeholders throughout COVID-19 to enable and facilitate the safe return of cruise.

“The tourism sector has been significantly impacted by COVID-19 and this is a positive step forward for the industry.”
