First quarter trade results for FY2027 are now available.
Overall trade volume softened slightly in the first quarter of FY27 compared to FY26, down 4.6% to 3.42 million tonnes. This was driven by decreases in sectors like mining, industrial and fuel, reflective of broader market and operating pressures that continue to affect many Tasmanian businesses. Statewide, Bell Bay recorded a positive comparative increase in total tonnage for this first quarter.
Looking at TEUs (20-foot equivalent units), there was a modest increase of 2% to 152,891, supported by both imported and exported container numbers. Devonport, Stanley and Burnie all recorded positive increases in total TEUs compared to Q1 FY26.
